Stroke Research at NeuroTexas Institute is dedicated to the study of stroke epidemiology, prevention, treatment, diagnosis, and quality of care outcomes within St. David’s HealthCare’s two Primary Stroke Centers.
Stroke is a complex neurovascular disease with a considerable variation in pathophysiology, clinical presentation, treatment, and prognosis. In order to develop new and more effective preventive and therapeutic strategies, there is a need to understand the risk factors and physiological mechanisms that lead to stroke, as well as factors of importance for recovery and progression after stroke.
Stroke Epidemiology
NeuroTexas Institute researchers are working to understand how the weather may affect rates of stroke. A long-held opinion among neurologists is that fluctuations in weather, such as pressure drops, can lead to increased incidence of certain types of stroke. NeuroTexas institute researchers are conducting the largest United States study to date of this topic, using data from 150 hospitals in 20 states.
Stroke Device Clinical Trails
Stroke Research includes neurovascular and endovascular device trials ensuring that state-of-the-art cerebrovascular technology will be available for the local patient population.
