After it’s first year of successful operation, the Austin Brain-Tumor Repository is expanding and beginning to collect specimens from hospitals Nationwide.

In October of 2010, The Austin Brain Tumor Repository (ABTR) began collecting primary brain tumor specimens for storage and future release to area researchers with IRB-approved studies. To date, only specimens from St. David’s Medical Center have been collected but NTI Research is working toward expanding collection capabilities within all St. David’s HealthCare facilities and other HCA facilities in the nation. A pilot program to collect specimens from outside the Austin area will soon begin with the addition of Del Sol and Las Palmas Medical Centers in El Paso. Later in 2012, the ABTR will open specimen collection at additional hospital facilities across the nation. The ABTR will begin releasing specimens to area researchers in late 2012.
