NTI Research soon launching the Austin Brain Tumor Repository

NeuroTexas Institute Research will soon be launching the Austin Brain Tumor Repository (ABTR) to collect and store brain tumor tissue and clinical information from brain tumor patients. The first of its kind in Central Texas, the ABTR will offer brain tumor patients the opportunity to donate brain tumor tissue (not needed for their medical care), as well as a blood sample and clinical information into the repository. These donated tissue samples will be instrumental in furthering our understanding of brain tumor biology and genetics.

The purpose of the ABTR is to facilitate a wide range of brain tumor research using the latest technologies such as immunohistochemistry, DNA and RNA sequencing, and microarray “gene chips”. The ABTR also hopes to aid in the development of next generation technologies and analysis methods. Regional researchers will be able to use allocations of tissue from the ABTR, subject to approval.

“The ABTR will be the catalyst for the advancement of brain tumor research for years to come,” says NeuroTexas Institute’s Director of Research, Matt Cowperthwaite, “the ABTR will significantly advance our own research efforts, as well as greatly benefit those of other research institutions in Central Texas. Hopefully, by working together we can find a cure for this deadly disease.”
